THE INDUSTRIAL CHAIN RESEARCH INSTITUTE

The Greater Bay Area Industrial Chain Research Institute was registered in Macao in 2019. Guided by China's major regional development strategies, it brings together elites from government, business, and academic circles across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. Its mission is to establish a collaborative mechanism featuring close cooperation, resource sharing, complementary advantages, and mutual benefit—driven by industrial research to further advance the economic development of the Greater Bay Area. The Institute undertakes research projects, hosts seminars and exchange events of varying scales within the region, and publishes research reports, striving to serve as a bridge connecting governments, industries, think tanks, and mainland China. Currently, the Institute has 31 board members.

Then Chief Executive of Macao SAR Ho Iat Seng expressed strong endorsement for the alliance's establishment of the Greater Bay Area Industrial Chain Research Institute.

Jonathan Choi, Chairman of the Greater Bay Area Industrial Chain Research Institute, emphasized that while Macao’s economy has grown rapidly in recent years, its industrial diversification remains insufficient. To address this, the Institute brings together elites from finance, technology, culture, sports, media, and academia across the region, aiming to provide strategic recommendations for industrial development in the Greater Bay Area, particularly in Macao. The Institute will propose concrete measures to advance Macao’s specialty financial services, innovation & technology, and cultural-sports-media sectors. This vision has already received support from Mr. Ho Iat Seng, then Chief Executive-elect of Macao SAR.

eong Vai Tac, Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macao, stated that the Greater Bay Area initiative represents an innovative "testing ground" where international standards and efficiency-driven Chinese practices converge. He stressed that Macao must deepen targeted collaboration with other Bay Area cities to achieve complementary growth. Additionally, Macao should explore new cooperative platforms and mechanisms to overcome institutional barriers, while leveraging the advanced technologies and expertise of neighboring cities to optimize its industrial structure and build a globally competitive modern industrial system.

The establishment of the Greater Bay Area Industrial Chain Research Institute is expected to expand Macao’s development opportunities, enhance industrial upgrading, and deliver more growth prospects for businesses and residents.
